Zakowski Motorsports Takes IATVHSS Win and Heads to WORCS
- Updated: August 5, 2014
While technically on summer break from the GNCC series and taking some time off, the Zakowski Motorsports has been working around the clock chasing championships and opportunities. Nationals have been rough on the team so far, being plagued with bad luck, but that reign has ended heading into the championship chase in the IATVHSS, which most may recognize as the series that puts on the annual 4-hour Heartland Challenge and is no slouch when it comes to competition and professionalism.
Pro-UTV driver Zac Zakowski along with backup driver and copilot Eric VonSprecken, who is a new addition to the team for 2014, brought home their first win of the season in the UTV Open class at the last round in Mt. Pleasant, IA. With a mechanical failure at round one and Eric taking a solid 6th at round two, the win was much needed to remain in the points chase. After taking a wicked holeshot and keeping the car together in the intense heat, the duo would lead from green to checkers to stand in the middle of the podium. The win leaves ZMS sitting tied for 3rd in the standings with three rounds left.
With the win in the books, the shop had time for a little side project. The entire team decided to do something a little different and get out of the woods for awhile and stretch their legs out. This weekend is round number seven of the WORCS series in Washington and the #990 Can-am Maverick 1000 X-rs will be there to makes its WORCS racing debut! It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get this all new Maverick built between cross country races, but the car deemed “Retribution” will be in the Pro-SxS ranks to wrestle with the best in the country.
Crew chief Paul Zakowski had this to say about the venture, “You know we just wanted to do something different. Zac is a great driver, but he is even better when you get him out of those trees ha-ha. We have done so many different types of racing and are still looking for that next opportunity for something to blow up. With that and our drive to race against the best no matter what we are doing it just seemed like an easy decision to head west and see what we can do!”
You can follow along on the teams Facebook page for updates and results throughout the weekend of racing and the rest of the season. With the last round of the IATVHSS being canceled, the end of the season should get crazy with a double header weekend planned. After this weekend the team heads to the Heartland Challenge with a pretty big announcement! Stay tuned!
