BITD Vegas to Reno
Coming off of a slick 2nd place finish in the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 back in May, Mark Holz and company stepped up their game for Vegas to Reno. Known affectionately in the off-road community as the “Longest Off-Road Race in the United States,” the 2014 edition of the race saw the Mongrel-equipped Holz Racing Polaris RZR fight through 530 miles of dust and debris on its way to victory.

The Holz Racing Polaris RZR was equipped with GBC Motorsports Kanati Mongrel tires.

Fellow GBC Motorsports racer Levi Gilkison charged hard through the Nevada desert as well. Levi piloted the Mongrel-equipped Brightside Racing Polaris to a 9th place finish in the UTV class.

Cody Mitchell made some waves in the Quad Pro class for GBC. Mitchell team crossed the line in 2nd place on their GBC-equipped Honda in an impressive time of just under 11 hours.

Dirt Series Round 7 at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park
As Round 6 of the 2014 Dirt Series was cancelled, Round 7 at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park was changed to a double-points format. GBC racers excelled with extra points on the line. Cody Bradbury has been the class of the field so far in the 2014 Dirt Series UTV 1000/Unlimited Class, but this time around it was Nic Granlund who ran away with the win. Nic has only raced three rounds so far, but a pair of victories and a second place finish have him up in 4th place in the class standings. Bradbury’s 7th place finish at Elsinore dropped him into 2nd place in the standings, just in front of fellow GBC racer Tommy Scranton. Scranton finished 5th in Round 7, and with a close points race the class championship will surely be decided in the final rounds. Professional satellite radio DJ Jason Ellis was on hand driving the Mongrel-equipped 4wheeldirt.com car to a impresive 4th place finish in just his second time ever racing a UTV.

Corbin Leaverton has been stellar in the UTV Prod 900 class this season, and his consistency finally helped him capture the elusive first win of the season. Along with two other podium finishes this year, Leaverton is sitting just three points back from the class leader.

James and Tom Gorman have collectively dominated the UTV Prod 750 class this year. In six races so far, only once has a Gorman not won the class. This round was no different as James took his third win of the season. Tom followed him across the line in 2nd place. James also holds the edge in the class standings, just eight points ahead of Tom.

Steve “Wheels” Bucaro has been unstoppable this year in the Stadium Lites class, and he continued his near-perfect season with his fifth win in six races.

GBC Motorsports also had a good day in the ATV races. Craig Bennett led the way with a win in the Quad 450 Pro-Am class. With three wins on the year Craig holds a commanding lead on the class. Mynor Snow finished 5th in the Quad 450 Intermediate class but still holds onto the second place spot in the standings. Justin Luna battled it out for a third place finish in a crowded Quad 450 Novice class and now holds a slight edge in the standings. Bill Markel has been perfect from the second round on, earning his fifth win of the season at Elsinore.

The next Best in the Desert race takes place October 10-12 in Parker, AZ, and Round 8 of the Dirt Series heads to Glen Helen Raceway on September 21st.
