Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Regionals David Nagy Race Report

nagy_21614Friday February 14th 2014: It’s my first race of the season and my second year racing in the Lucas Oil off Road Regionals.

Our first race of the 2014 season was at the Word Famous Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino. My RZR XP 900 has a new look thanks to my new sponsor Fineline Graphix. Mike at Fineline did a great job and I’m so happy to have him on board. Last year I had some success and some failures at Glen Helen so this year I was determined to do better. Bob Bell from Precision Concept’s met me at the track Friday for practice and has been an integral part of any success I’ve had on the track. I can’t say enough about Bob Bell or express in words the gratitude I have for all his help. Without his help during practice and on Race day I wouldn’t have been able to compete. I would also like to thank my new sponsors Tim Neidhart & Erik Ridens at Race Edge for working long into the night setting up my RZR with new amazing front A-Arms, rod ends/Hiem joints and a new steering box. My Alba Racing motor is running strong and the car feels good. Practice went well and I felt good in the car. Bob Bell helped dial in my shocks and I was putting down lap times that were one second faster than last year so I was feeling pretty good. I would also like to thank the rest of my sponsors because without them I couldn’t do what I love to do. Thanks to Kenny Osborn from Black Rhino and Racer X for always having what I need and for all your help. Josh Lahaye at Cryo Heat for making everything stronger and dissipate heat more efficiently. I’m so lucky to have such great sponsors behind me and I’m so happy to be able to represent all of you.

Saturday February 15th 2014 Race day:
There is a new class at Lucas this year the “RZR 1000 Production class” there are 14 cars in the class and since there was only three other UTV’s in the unlimited class I decided to move into the 1000 class. We line up for qualifying and because I should up late I’m all the way in the back! Note to self…Next time show up earlier for qualifying. We get out on the track and I can’t find any open track. There are SR1’s flying by people crashing its mayhem and I love it! I qualify 8th out of fifteen. Not as good as I hoped but not awful either. Time to race, we line up and every other car in front of me is a New RZR 1000. I’m feeling a little outgunned and beginning to wonder if I made the right decision to move into the 1000 class. Too late for that now time to get busy, when we roll onto the track my bloods pumping, my adrenaline is starting to flow and I feel alive! The parade laps are done and off we go. I’m in the middle of it! Mud flying, tires bumping it’s crazy but awesome. I hold my own for most of the race and manage to work my way up into fifth place at one point but, I boil the brake fluid and lose all braking three laps from the end. I end up seventh out of fifteen and even though I didn’t podium I feel good knowing I can do better. I’m looking forward to the next race and a chance to move up in the standings. The next race is April 5th at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park. I hope to see you out there and if you make it out please stop by out pit and say hi. Thanks again to all my wonderful sponsors, family and friends who help make this possible.
