Nic Granlund Back on the Podium at Dirt Series AVI Resort Casino

granlund_avirstr14As round five of the Dirt series made its way to the AVI resort and Casino in Laughlin NV, for a unique combination of half indoor/outdoor track, Nic was looking forward to a great way to spend his Birthday and Father’s Day weekend.
Nic and his pit crew prepped his Polaris RZR XP 1000 for the race by mounting some fresh GBC mongrel tires on his Hiper wheels and changing the engine oil with some Torco Racing oil.
Due to the tighter track layout Nic did some major adjustments to his Fox Shox that are connected to the super strong Lone Star racing suspension.
After a rollover at the last round of the Worcs series Nic inspected his roll cage but the Carr One fabrication roll cage held up flawlessly and showed no signs of damage.
With a quick polish of his Motoactive bumpers and nerfbars they were ready to load up for the short drive to the AVI event-center.

As the Dirt series crews were putting the final touches on an interesting track with several Split-lane options Nic was getting ready to jump in his Proarmor seat and get strapped in with his Proarmor safety harnesses for practice to dial in his car.

granlund_avitrn14The first practice went flawlessly and with a few minor tweaks he went out for practice number two, with a hard landing on a step up jump, Nic broke a rear axle.
Nic slowly made his way back to pits where he and his pit crew of Duane and Ted they feverishly began to disassemble the CV joints to replace the broken axle.
By staying calm and working smart they managed to get the RZR back together and ready for the evenings race program!

When the green flag dropped for the start of Moto number one there was a mad scramble with over 10 cars trying to fit in the tight confinements of the stadium. With cars bumping, rubbing and flipping all over the place Nic took a hard-hit and his power steering went into failsafe mode so for the rest of the Moto he was forced not only to drive without power steering but also to fight against the nonworking motor assist.
While struggling to keep the car under control Nic got passed and made some passes while giving it his all to finish the Moto strong.

For the second Moto they did an inverted start so Nic was awarded with the pole position.
As the green flag dropped, he quickly jumped out to the lead with the help of the great power from his Yoshimira exhaust and in turn two he held a tight inside line to protect his lead when he was hit from the rear. Nic tried to get away but the front wheel of the other competitor was stuck inside by the shock. They were stuck together for about 10 to 15 yards when they finally broke free. As soon as Nic pulled away he noticed that he had received a flat tire and his exhaust had been hit, getting dislodged from the head pipe.
Nic drove as hard as he could for the remaining laps with a loss of power and a rear flat tire.
When all was said and done Nic finished both Moto’s consistent and was awarded with a podium finish and 2nd place overall.

It was a great way to finish up his birthday and Nic was looking forward to Father’s Day, spending the day with his son and mother.
We all know that none of this would be possible without the support of Great sponsors, family and friends.
