STI’s Mc-Vay Williams Races Strong on New Roctane XS tires.

sandy-corner-close215With more than 120 UTV racer entries, the Polaris RZR UTV World Championship, held Sat. Feb. 21 in Laughlin, Nev., was the largest race event of its kind. Racers in the “Best In the Desert” event took 10 laps on the rough 14-mile desert course to determine the pro-class winner.

In their first race on the newly developed 30/10R-14 STI Roctane XS tires mounted on STI HD5 Beadlock wheels, Team McVay-Williams ran a LoneStar-backed Polaris RZR to an impressive eighth-place finish overall in a field packed with the best racers in the western states. The team was running in third place until a blown drive belt dropped them back to eighth on the last lap.speed-blur-1215

sandy-corner-exit-roost215“We had so much confidence in the durability of the new Roctane XS tires, we removed our spare tire from the car before the race to save weight,” said driver Jonathan McVay. “The LoneStar RZR had great bite off the line; we nearly got the holeshot from our line, and that has a lot to do with the tire. We started in about 31st place, and passed 10 cars on the first lap. I have never passed that many cars in one lap. We knew early we could push hard on these tires.”

“Very proud to be a part of the STI race-support program. The debut of the Roctane XS tires was a huge success,” said McVay. “Thank you STI for your support and dedication to having a superior tire.”
